The Capital City Grange is hosting an outdoor concert, preceded by an outdoor picnic in the parking lot of the Grange Hall! Please join us for the picnic, starting at 6:00 PM--bring a chair and/or a blanket! Bring your favorite foods--it's not a potluck this time.
At 7:00, we'll start a live concert with TWO Vermont bands, both favorites at the Montpelier Contra Dance series that has been suspended by the pandemic: ATLANTIC CROSSING--based in the Burlington area, this dynamic trio features Peter MacFarlane, Viveka Fox and Rick Klein on an assortment of instruments--fiddles, guitar, bodhran, low whistles, and more, playing tunes from Celtic traditions of the British Isles, Maritime and French Canada, plus songs from the Vermont tradition.
THE TURNING STILE duo features Montpelier residents Aaron Marcus and Joanne Garton. Aaron plays keyboard, concertina and banjo, plus foot percussion; Joanne is a fiddler par excellence.
Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids and low-income folks, and $20 for those who can give some extra to support the bands, the dance series and the Grange. Admissions will help cover the payments to the bands--we want to support the musicians that have lost so much work during the pandemic.
We are also asking for donations to support both the Grange and the dance series. Both non-profit, all volunteer groups have suffered from a huge drop in income due to the pandemic; both want to survive to welcome people to live events as soon as it is safe to do so. We're putting on this concert to remind us all of the great music which accompanies dancing in the Grange Hall in "normal" times, and looks forward to those times returning.
We're also live-streaming this concert to allow those who don't want to be part of a large audience, even outdoors, or who live farther away to join us.
