The JUFH is a network of citizens supporting local foods, products and agriculture. Our aims are to:
1. Market and publicize local foods and farms
2. Improve local food access and distribution
3. Educate about fresh food and how to grow it
4. Grow foods for local food shelves
5. Support value-added local food production.
6. Strengthen community by celebrating local foods together.
This past year, we have:
• Held three forums with local farmers to hear their thoughts and concerns about increasing their visibility and business within our community.
• Produced and distributed the flyer mentioned above.
• Held a free community brunch featuring local grown foods.
• Harvested 100's of pounds of potatoes planted and tended by volunteers, which were shared with local food banks.
• Sponsored a weekly pizza bake at the Jericho Elementary School.
In the coming year look for:
• A free community dinner January 8, 2025 at the Browns River Middle School, 4:30-7pm featuring locally grown foods. Keep an eye on FPF for more information!
• Continue efforts to introduce citizens to local farmers, who are supporting us by providing local products.
• Hold more forums with local farmers.
• Coordinate with schools to increase awareness about local food and agriculture and help with their community gardens.
• Create more flyers with lists of local homemade food products and maple syrup producers.
• Learn about and coordinate other Food Hubs and farm agencies in our region, to realize best practices when developing a Food Hub program
The next monthly meeting of the JUFH is this Wednesday, Nov. 20th at 6-7:30pm at the United Church of Underhill. All are welcome! For more info, please reply to this post.
