Hi Neighbors - For those of you interested in theater recommendations, I’d like to let you know about a dance show called “With Women” being performed this coming Friday and Saturday, 7/31 and 8/1, at the Phantom Theater in Warren. The theater is housed in a historic barn (built from a Sears Roebuck catalog kit) and the surrounding grounds make an excellent place for a pre-show picnic, if you’re so inclined. Calais-resident Ashima Fillbach will be one of the dancers in this performance. I’ll be going both nights, and would be happy to carpool with anyone interested in attending on Saturday. Here is a description of the show: Isadora Snapp and dancers present an evening-length work that takes inspiration from the births of her two children. The piece ranges from a reflective narrated solo to a joyful, uplifting group piece, weaving together both the darker and lighter moments of her experiences. Despite planning to give birth at home, she ended up in the hospital for the birth of her daughter and then with her son in neonatal care. Both outcomes were positive, but Isadora did not recover easily and continues to struggle with postpartum depression. As a dancer, she uses movement to work through difficulties, both emotional and physical. With Women is her story of both the struggles and joys of becoming a mother.Appropriate for ages 12 and up.Tickets are $15.
