Based on his new book Ira Allen: A Biography, J. Kevin Graffagnino's lively talk evaluates Allen's checkered career and makes the case for including him in our picture of Vermont's formative decades."

About the Author: J. Kevin Graffagnino began his career at the University of Vermont library, where he served as curator of Vermont history from 1978 to 1995, as head of Special Collections for two years, as a member of the graduate faculty, and as an adjunct member of the Canadian Studies program.
Graffagnino was Library Director at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin from 1995 to 1999, Executive Director of the Kentucky Historical Society from 1999 to 2003, and Executive Director of the Vermont Historical Society from 2003 to 2008, and director of the William L. Clements library at the University of Michigan from 2008 to 2019.

'The Siege of the Moses Pierson Blockhouse'

In 1778, a skirmish took place between a small force of Colonists and a British raiding party in Shelburne, VT. Known as the Battle of Pierson's blockhouse, the battle caused the death of Barnabus Barnum, one of the original Green Mountain Boys. Join us as Brennan Gauthier, a newly appointed Shelburne Historical Society Board Member, shares more about this small engagement and some of the archaeological discoveries found there.
