The Cold Year of 1816

Feb 7, 2025, 5:30 to 7 PM

Just as we settle into deep winter, the Marshfield Historical Society with the Jaquith Library invite you to take a journey back through Vermont's history to: "The Cold Year of 1816".

On Friday, February 7, 2025 in the Twinfield Union School Library (5:30 - 7:00 PM), historian and author Howard Coffin will present his well-researched and hugely popular program: "1816 has long been known as the year without summer. Vermonters still call it '1800 and Froze to Death' a year of frosts every month, dark skies, and mysterious lights that caused a widespread belief that a higher power was displeased".

A warm welcome from the Marshfield Historical Society to everyone who can attend the free public program we are excited to bring to the area! This program is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and Vermont Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations do not necessarily represent those of the NEH or VT Humanities.

We hope to see you on Friday, February 7 at Twinfield Union School Library, 5:30 - 7:00 PM.
