The Monument Arts & Cultural Center in Bennington presents the Broadway hit show, "Annie," for the holiday season.
Featuring professional actors and children from the surrounding area in the roles of the orphans and Annie herself, performances will run December 5-8 and December 12-14. There will be two casts of children.
The story of "Annie" takes place during the Great Depression and tells the story of spunky orphan Annie, based on the comic strip that debuted 100 years ago in the New York Daily News. Raised in a New York City orphanage run by the child-hating Miss Hannigan, Annie is taken in by the wealthy Daddy Warbucks and his assistant Grace. Annie believes her parents are still alive, so Warbucks offers a reward for the couple to come forward. That sends Miss Hannigan, her brother Rooster, and his girlfriend Lily scheming to claim the award for themselves.
The award-winning musical's themes of hope and optimism make it a natural fit for a holiday production. The run at the MAC Center will feature 10 performances, including three matinees.
