The final pair of readings for this fall's WORDS OUT LOUD reading series is upon us!
All are welcome to come hear Vermont authors Brett Ann Stanciu (of Hardwick) and Kenneth M. Cadow (of Pompanoosic) read from their work.
Books by both authors are for sale in the old general store at the Kent, and more will be restocked on Friday as many have sold out!
The title of this year's series, WORDS OUT LOUD: Points of View, Points of Light, nods toward ILLUMINATED WORLDS, the title of Art at the Kent's 2024 exhibit. In their work, the presenting authors bring forward unique points of view to shine a light on individuals, circumstances, conversations, and worlds of all kinds worth paying attention to.

Reception to follow down the road amidst the art on display at the Kent.
A bit about this Sunday's authors:
BRETT ANN STANCIU is the author of the forthcoming novel CALL IT MADNESS (Regal House Publishing, 2026), the nonfiction book UNSTITCHED: MY JOURNEY TO UNDERSTAND OPIOID ADDICTION (Steerforth Press, 2021), and HIDDEN VIEW, her first novel (Green Writers Press, 2016). A recipient of a 2020 Vermont Arts Council Creation Grant, her essays and fiction have appeared in The Rumpus, Memoir Monday, Vermont Almanac, Taproot, Vermont Literary Review, The Long Story, and The Seraphic Review, among other publications. She received a 2024 Fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center for the Arts. Mother of two daughters, Stanciu lives in Hardwick, Vermont, in a 100-year-old house surrounded by lilacs.
KENNETH M. CADOW is an educator and writer. Gather is his first young adult novel, which was a NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST and a MICHAEL L. PRINTZ HONOR BOOK. About this book, he says, "In my teaching career, I have encountered dozens upon dozens of stories like Ian's: kids whose spirits are threatened to be crushed by societal disregard. The kids who are able to pull through by the ingenuity of their skill set and the strength of their character, as well as the care of their larger communities, are some of the strongest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting." Kenneth Cadow is the father of three remarkable adults and lives with his wife and their dog, Quinnie, in Pompanoosuc, Vermont.
As always, a reminder to arrive early for thoughtful parking and seating; leave pets at home; and bring layers for comfort in the old meetinghouse which swings between chilly and toasty, depending on the day's weather!
Finally, I want to extend a HUGE personal thank you to the Old West Church Association for their constant caretaking of the beloved OWC, and especially Barbara McAndrew and Susannah Blachly who've helped enormously with parking guidance during WOL. More thanks to the curators of Art at the Kent and all the docents for all they are doing to help the show go on, throughout its fleeting fall run, and for the author receptions that follow the readings. Smooch!
