Cabot Public Library - Branching Out: Author Writing Workshop
Using Everyday Materials in Poems
From Sam:
"A friend of mine said that not enough poems had anything about Walmart in them. In thinking about that, I looked at the ways poets incorporate everyday materials and actual junk. We will create poems using found and recycled objects, in addition to looking at examples of intriguing pairings and odd associations. How does surprise influence creation?
"I will have some examples of poems that incorporate everyday items. Then, I am going to hand out some slips of paper, on the slips will be some grand words and some concrete litter. Your task will be to weave the litter in with your grand words."
At the end of the workshop, people will have an opportunity to share their poems.
Needed materials: participants should bring pen and paper.
