Due to the forecast of rain on Saturday morning, the Conservation Commission is postponing this weekend's walk to Saturday, 10/21, at 9 am.
Details:
The Calais Conservation Commission and the Calais Trails Committee will host a walk on the Broadview Farm Trail Network this year, one of the official Calais Town trails. This farm will be known to many of you. It has long been owned by Bill Blachly and is the site of the Unadilla Theater. Parts of the trails are also on land owned by Tim Howe, which is a portion of the old Lowry Farm, conserved with the Vermont Land Trust and funding from the Calais Conservation Fund in 1996, and is part of the 10% of Calais land in conservation.
The walk should last approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Meet at the roadside parking area on Blachly Road, about a quarter mile northeast of the Unadilla Theater. Please do not block the road.
Mark Brown, a member of the Conservation Commission and a resident of East Calais who has hiked these trails many times, will lead the walk. It will be designed to avoid the steeper inclines on the most southerly parts of the system, while highlighting the fantastic views available on the trail. Dogs must be kept on leashes. Cattle and other livestock are present on the fields.
