The August meeting of the Calais and East Montpelier Historical Society will be held on Tue., Aug. 19 at Gail Graham's place. The program of the evening will be a tour of Gail's barn, which dates back to the early 1900's, with quite a bit of history. Gail has agreed to this tour as a result of requests from the program Comm.
NOTE: There will be a change in the schedule of the evening, with the program/tour being first on the agenda, so as to assure ample daylight. The tour will be guided by Gail, with the assist of Elliott Morse, with his infinite knowledge of such structures, as well as farming way back "in the good 'ole days". ALSO- we are asking folks to arrive as early as 5:30, so as to allow adequate time. Other members will be available to guide any folks arriving after 5:30. Please keep in mind that it is a three story barn, with some walking around and a few steps involved, so caution is advised.
Following the tour-at around 7 PM, there will be hot dogs on the BBQ (left over from the Hemlock week-end), so plan on a picnic, and bring items like salads, etc., to accompany the "dogs". Ice cream will also be served, which was from the Hemlock week-end, so any other desert items are welcome.
It sounds like the weather will be nice, so we will "picnic" outside-SO bring your own chairs. In case of inclement weather, we will be able to eat inside Gail's house.
Brief business meetings of both Calais and E. Montpelier HS's will be held following picnicking, so as to update members.
All are welcome. Oh-DIRECTIONS to Gail's home: 100 Leonard Rd., Adamant, which is located bet. Adamant and Kents Corner, at the junction of Adamant Rd., Fowler Rd. and Singleton Rd.. The signage is not very good, so look for special signs at the junction, to the big RED BARN and white house. Call 223-5814 if you have any questions.
