Phone-Free Schools VT Action at State House Feb. 26th

Feb 26, 2025, 9 AM to 1 PM

Posting for a friend:

A handful of schools in Vermont have gone truly phone-free for the entire school day and the results are inspiring. When students get a 6-7 hour break from phones for the day, they report better academic focus, improved mental health, and stronger social cohesion. Join me in asking legislators to support the Phone and Social Media-Free Schools bill (H54 / S21) so that all Vermont students and teachers -- not just at a handful of schools -- can access these benefits!

1) Sign our support letter here:

You can read more about the bill at:

2) Help us get 100 people to the State House! We need YOU and your friends and kids.

Join us:
Wed. Feb. 26th Community Day of Support for Phone & Social Media Free Schools
Statehouse (inside) 9am-1pm (come for any portion that works for you)

Schedule of events:
9am in Room 10 - Welcome & Orientation: How to talk with legislators (muffins and coffee)
10am - Circulate and talk with legislators or sit in on committee meetings
11am Room 11 - Hear Community Testimonies of teachers, students, and others who support this
12pm Try to find your legislators for lunch (pro-tip: consider emailing them ahead of time)

Many legislators support this, but are not prioritizing it. We say this is low-hanging fruit that is connected to school funding and many of the challenges plaguing education in VT. We need to bring our enthusiasm from all corners of the state and hope it rubs off on them. We hope that having it during what is school vacation week for many schools will allow educators and students to join us more easily!

We have reserved a large meeting room to have time for our own set of teachers, students, parents, and medical and mental health providers to share why this matters in hopes that we can inspire the House Education Committee to give H.54 attention. High school students from Thetford Academy will bravely give their testimony for why they love their phone-free school day policy. Let's have their backs. Bring your own kids!

Visit "Events" at http://phonefreeschoolsvt.com for more details and to RSVP (very helpful).

Can't come? Send a note to your legislators. Look up Action Steps on our website for help finding their contact info.
