Guilford's Democratic Caucus

Past event
Sep 23, 2021, 7 to 8 PM

Greetings, Guilford Neighbors

You are invited to participate in Guildord's Democratic Caucus on Thursday, September 23, from 7 to 8:00 pm in the Guilford Town Office. Given our concern about the COVID pandemic and variants, the meeting will be held online via Zoom as well as in person. If you come to the town office, please wear a mask.

Everyone, new and old, Democrat, Progressive, and Republican, who is interested in progress and change in Guilford, Vermont, and the nation, is welcome to join the discussion and planning. This year we are meeting both in person at the town office and also by Zoom. You are welcome to participate either way. For the Zoom link, please contact John Hagen: Hagenjohn@mac.com

Every two years we meet for a general discussion, and then those who want to be active in the Democratic Party stay and join the caucus. At the beginning of the meeting, Sara Coffey, our representative for Guilford and Vernon, will share some insights into what has been going on in Montpelier and her priorities looking forward. This will be a great time to ask Sara questions and make suggestions. She joins me in encouraging everyone to come and explore possibilities.

After the opening discussion, we will convene the caucus:

Agenda:

- Convene our caucus and vote in members present plus others who request to be included in the Guilford Town Democratic Committee. You need not be present, but to participate you need to give us your name and address, telephone, and email. If you would like to serve on the committee but Thursday evening is inconvenient for you, email us with your contact information and we will be sure you are officially on the committee.

- Elect Officers for the Guilford Town Committee. Andy and Elise Burrows (chair and secretary), and Betty Frye (vice chair) are stepping back to provide an opportunity for new officers to step up. Delegates to the Windham County Democratic Committee will also be elected.

- Presentation and discussion of the calendar of regular committee activities between the caucus and the upcoming 2022 mid-term elections. These activities include finding and encouraging candidates, nominating Justices of the Peace, reaching out and encouraging everyone to vote, and finding as many ways as possible for everyone to learn about the Democratic platform and what our local, state, and national governments are doing.

- Open discussion about other activities to promote Democratic ideas and candidates.

The Guilford Town Committee has for years been open to neighbors with a wide range of democratic and progressive opinions. It is one of the strongest Democratic committees in Vermont, and through the Windham County Democratic Committee we work together with town committees in neighboring Windham Country towns. That said, we can and should do much better. Our government at all levels needs our active participation.

Please spread this invitation to anyone you know who may be interested, particularly to new neigbbors who have moved into town.
