Come dance with us this Tuesday! On March 10th from 7-10pm the Brattleboro Contra Dance is hosting a bounty of great talent at the Stone Church on Main Street. Cedar Stanistreet, Guillaume Sparrow-Pepin & Kristen Planeaux will play for us. Shari Shakti will make her Brattleboro debut as a caller.
Shari found contra dancing in 2007, and for the last two years she has been calling all over New England. The Portland, ME Intown Contra Dance was her home dance and learning venue for calling. She moved recently to Western Mass. and looks forward to experiencing the surrounding communities through dance and new connections.
Cedar grew up playing both classical violin and traditional fiddle music, and performs and tours nationally with dance bands Cardinal Direction and Nor'easter. Cedar is an avid contra dancer and dance organizer, helping to run events such as the Brattleboro Dawn Dance.
Guillaume draws on jazz, traditional, and world music. A singer and pianist, he picked up the accordion in 2012 and, under the tutelage of Jeremiah McLane, found his way to the folk music scene. Guilluome is a member of the trio Nova.
Kristen on piano (and maybe more) brings bold rhythm and imaginative harmony to both traditional and modern melodies. She plays with The Ripples and Mulberrry Street, calls contra dances and co-organizes Form the Ocean, a new contra dance retreat for women.
Join us at the beautiful Stone Church, 210 Main Street in Brattleboro, VT from 7-10pm. If you're new to contra dancing, come at 7:00 for a brief intro lesson. No partner needed, and beginners are welcome; all dances are taught and called. To protect the dance floor, please carry in clean, soft-soled shoes. Adults $10-12, college students $8, youth $5.
