The first two films of the 6-film series of the Vermont Movie were shown on Sunday Jan. 26 at the Bellows Falls opera House. For those who missed seeing these incredible opening films, please do not miss the next 4 in the series being show on consecutive Sundays (2/2 and 2/9). Here's the information on the series
Ten years ago, this collaborative and ground-breaking 6-part documentary series about the culture and history of the iconoclastic state of Vermont first premiered. Since declaring its own independence in 1777, Vermont has been a beacon, a haven, a refuge, an idea, a symbol, a state shaped by independent and courageous decision-makers, thinkers, political leaders, workers, artists, immigrants and innovators. It was the first state to outlaw slavery, to allow same sex civil unions, to call for the impeachment of President Nixon, and to protect the environment with Act 250.
Several dozen award-winning Vermont filmmakers came together to make a multi-part series about the state that first abolished slavery and gave rights to gay and lesbians to form Civil Unions. Filmmaker Nora Jacobson initiated the project and edited together the multiple stories contributed by the other filmmakers, who include Jay Craven, Alan Dater and Lisa Merton, Andy Reichsman, Bill Stetson, Dorothy Tod, Rick Moulton, Robin Lloyd, Dina Janis, John Douglas, Deb Ellis, Art Bell, Louise Michaels, Meghan O'Rourke, Rob Koier, Kate Cone, Jill Vickers, Bobbie Lanahan, Orly Yadin, Dan Butler, among others.
