Come to the Capital City Grange on Saturday, for an hour-long discussion about Equal Exchange, with Fair-Trade coffee, tea and chocolate! Stay for a potluck dinner afterward!
You may have seen--and enjoyed--the products of this worker-owned organization at local food co-ops and grocery stores. Equal Exchange, now over 30 years old, imports food products from small farmers and farmer co-ops, including coffee, chocolate, tea, cocoa, olive oil and sugar using a "fair trade" model. This approach seeks to give farmers prices that allow them a good life, and provides very high-quality goods to consumers at reasonable prices by eliminating middle-men.
Danielle Robidoux from Equal Exchange will speak about their initiative to build a better food system, challenging the status quo where corporations control everything from seeds, to supply and prices. She'll talk about the current system, the steps that got us here, and how we can all be involved in imagining and implementing a better food system. And she'll bring Fair-Trade Equal Exchange coffee and tea to drink, and chocolate to sample!
Capital City Grange is located at 6612 Rt. 12, Berlin VT 05602, about 1 mile south of Montpelier, and just south of the I-89 overpass. This event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by our monthly Community Potluck at 6:00. Bring a dish, or a beverage, or chips, or whatever you want to share, and enjoy dinner and more discussion!
