Contra Dance Saturday at Grange Hall!

Past event
Nov 17, 2018, 7:30 to 11 PM

Please join us for dancing, live music and fun at the Capital City Grange Hall on Saturday night. We'll be starting off with a lesson for newcomers about 7:30 PM, followed by dancing from 8:00 to 11:00.
Caller Quena Crain will be teaching the lesson, and then teaching and calling contra dances for all levels of experience. She has been calling since at least 2010, and completed an East Coast tour including dances in DC, Brooklyn, and across New England this summer. You can check out photos of her dance calling on her facebook page: QuenaCrainDanceCaller, or find her on Youtube, calling in a wide variety of halls!

Excellent music will be provided by Frost and Fire, playing exciting dance music on a variety of instruments: piano, concertina, banjo, foot percussion, flute, bagpipes, whistles (high and low), mandolin, guitar, fiddles, bodhran & djembe (not all at once!). Musicians Aaron Marcus, Hollis Easter, Peter Macfarlane & Viveka Fox, all Vermont residents, are well-known to regular dancers at the CDU dances. The dance music will range from sultry to groovy to smooth, always with a steady beat. Check out www.frostandfireband.com for music samples and more information.

CDU Contra dances are 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays at 8 PM at the Capital City Grange Hall in Berlin (located on Northfield Street/Route 12 just south of the I-89 overpass), 8–11 p.m. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids or low-income, $15.00 for dance supporters–choose the right price for your budget. We suggest light, comfortable clothing, and bring a water bottle to refill at our water fountain/bottle filler. And please bring clean, soft-soled shoes, to help us protect our beautiful dance floor.
We are a friendly and open dance community! Beginners, singles, and all ages are welcome; all dances are taught. Whoever you are, we invite you to come share the joy of dancing with us!
