Past event
Jun 4, 2018, 7 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This Monday, the City Council will convene its first of two meetings for the month of June.

We have six items on our deliberative agenda.

The first item is a communication from the Mayor on annual appointments of Department Heads and several other positions appointed by the Mayor and approved annually by the City Council.

The second item is a presentation by Brad Segar, founder and president of Progressive Urban Management Associates on the global trends affecting downtowns and how to respond to them. The global trends include changing American demographics including the emergence of Gen X consumers as well as Millenial trends, changing consumer behaviors, housing and livability and issues of social equity. The implications of these trends are many; a report is available on Board Docs (the link is listed below.)

The third item is a presentation from CEDO on the 5 Year Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development. By the terms of our federal grants, the City must rewrite the Plan every 3 to 5 years. The Plan is focused on the needs of low- and moderate-income residents. The priorities of the Plan are decent housing and the cost burden of housing, creating economic opportunities including the costs of living and a livable wage and a suitable living environment for residents including public services and infrastructure. We will have a public hearing on the Plan after the presentation.

Our fifth item is a resolution that would adopt the Findings of Fact regarding the Champlain Parkway in support of a finding of necessity. The resolution would adopt the Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law and Order be executed. Further it directs City staff to take the necessary steps to advance compensation proceedings for the remaining properties affected by the findings of necessity.

The last item on our agenda is a presentation by the Chittenden Solid Waste District on their FY19 budget. Each municipality in the District must approve their annual budget.
