History of the Mafia in Film; from Dagos to Sopranos

Feb 9, 2025, 2 to 3:15 PM

Join the Vermont Italian Cultural Association and Dartmouth Professor Graziella Parati for this discussion about the history and fascination with the mafia in film. The stereotype of the mafia guy has dominated the representation of Italianness for about a century. Its seeds were laid out in the 1915 film The Italian, originally titled The Dago.

Professor Parati teaches in Italian and Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College. She is the author or co-author of 15 books on topics such as migration studies and cultural studies. She teaches the history of fascism, Italian American culture and film studies. She will join us virtually from Italy where she is currently directing a Dartmouth program in Rome.

This event is free but you must register on the Vermont Italian Cultural Association website to receive the zoom link.
