About

Nestled in the hill town of North Shrewsbury, Pierce's Store first opened as a General Store in 1865. The Pierce family ran the store for over a century, eventually bequeathing it to the Preservation Trust of Vermont. Reborn as The Shrewsbury Cooperative at Pierce's Store, it offers freshly baked goods, grab-and-go sandwiches, local produce and handcrafted goods made by local artisans. Events include wine and beer tastings, the Blueberry Festival, and fiercely contested Chili Cookoffs.

And of course there will be wine -- a complimentary tasting in Pierce's Store and wine by the glass for the sale in the Garage. I'm very excited about a new wine label which features some superb French wine at very reasonable prices. Their secret is to find the small cooperatives and the out-of-the-way places that the French themselves would favor for their daily wine.

We'll sample a white Bordeaux and a red Bordeaux, both priced at a very affordable $11.99. Here's what Eric Asimov of the NY Times has to say about the red: "This bottle is precisely the sort of wine you imagine the locals drinking... It's supple, dry, fresh, mildly tannic, humble and direct."

We'll also expand our horizons with a delightful white from Côtes de Gascogne ($9.99) and a graceful red from Valençay ($15.99). A refreshing Tempranillo from Castilla in Spain ($9.99), will complete the offering.

So please plan to join us on Friday for a convivial, delectable event.
