Dear Neighbors,
I hope you can join us this Indigenous People’s Day (otherwise known as Columbus Day) to march from UVM’s Davis Center down to the DoubleTree Hilton in solidarity with the indigenous anti-pipeline activist protectors in North Dakota and calling for a ban on fossil fuel infrastructure in Vermont. Speaking at the rally includes Beverly Little Thunder, enrolled member of the Standing Rock Lakota tribe, Chief Don Stevens along with other local Abenaki leaders and local drumming band Sambatucada. Bring the whole family!
What: March & Rally for People and The Planet Over Profit
When: 5pm, Monday, October 10, 2016
Where: Outside upper entrance of Davis Center (University of Vermont, Burlington) then marching to the DoubleTree Hotel.
Why: To rally in solidarity with the Standing Rock struggle against the Dakota Access Pipeline and then march to a major public Vermont Gubernatorial Debate. It will be held at the DoubleTree Inn in South Burlington and we will be pushing for a “Clean and Green New Deal for Vermont”. This is a critical opportunity to press Vermont’s political establishment to take bold action to protect our environment, to ban new fossil fuel infrastructure, establish meaningful reforms for energy democracy and invest in clean water and renewable energy.
The event is sponsored by 350 Vermont, Rights & Democracy, the Vermont Sierra Club, Lake Champlain International, Peace & Justice Center, Sambatucada, and the UVM Renewable Energy Network.
