Persied Meteor Shower

Past event
Aug 11, 11 PM to 5 AM, Aug 12, 2016

One of the most active meteor showers is happening right now--the Perseids. Head on out and look up to see as many as 200 shooting stars per hour. The rate will not be constant so be patient. Peak will be in the hours after midnight on the night of 11-12 Aug. but increased numbers can be seen in the couple nights just before and after that. They seem to originate in the constellation Perseus in the east-northeast but can be seen anywhere in the sky. Be aware it takes about 45 minutes for your eyes to fully adapt to the dark. The first-quarter moon will be setting around midnight so won't be interfering with the best viewing hours. Enjoy.
