Mama's Girls at Chandler, Sunday July 24

Past event
Jul 24, 2016, 7 to 10 PM

"Mama's Girls," with Rndolph 11-yer olds in leading roles, will be performed at 7:00 PM, Sunday July 24. Directed by Cher Laston. Sammy wants one thing, to be a girl! Born Samuel Jacobs, III, Sammy knows his truth. Amelia, his twin, is his staunchest advocate and will literally 'go to bat' for her sister. Mom is supportive and Dad is in denial. The tug of war that defines the beginning of Sammy's trans-journey threatens to tear the fabric of their being in half. Marilynn Barner Anselmi's provocative play provides a narrative we don't often hear in the court of public opinion: how do children perceive their gender identity and what rights do they have to assert autonomy over their physical selves.
Join the Vermont Pride Theater family for an evening of laughter and tears as we give witness to Sammy's heartfelt plea for self determination. Tickets at www.chandler-arts.org, or (802/728-6464), or at the box office starting at 6:00 PM Sunday.
