Have you ever wondered how to make a book? The Bixby Library is offering a five-part series with Book Arts Guild of Vermont's Jill Abilock. The first session is this Saturday from 10am to 1pm in the Otter Creek Room. You can sign up for individual sessions of the workshops or for all five at once. More information is available on our programming calendar: bixbylibrary.org/adult-programs/, and questions can be sent to muir.haman@bixbylibrary.org.
Description: This workshop will cover the basics of hand-sewn books. We will begin with the pamphlet stitch, a simple but versatile technique in which a book cover and textblock are bound together at the same time. We will progress to the long stitch, a technique that creates decorative patterns on the outside of the spine as multiple sections are sewn into a book cover. You will a make two books to take home: a beautiful, pamphlet-stitched journal with a wraparound tie, and a long-stitch journal or sketchbook that incorporates an optional beaded embellishment in the binding.
The other dates of the workshops will be June 25th, July 9th, 16th, and 23rd.
