Here’s the schedule:

9:00 Pre-madness meanderings, with local naturalist Richard Czaplinski— a walk along the shores of Sodom Pond examining habitat for flora and fauna.
10:00 – 10:30 Live Music: Local folk musician Bronwyn Fryer
10:40- 11:10 Live Music: The Crones Quartet: Liz Benjamin, Merry Shernock, Mary Jean McKelvey, and Cybil Aitkin
11:00 General mayhem begins:
• Grill opens - jumbo hot dogs, chicken sausage, salmon burgers, more than 15 kinds of delectable salads and outrageously good baked goods
• Silent Auction opens – Over 140 items - gift certificates, experiences, travel and more great stuff than you can shake a bottle of bug dope at
11:20-11:50 Live music: Lizzy Mandell and Susannah Blachly
12:00- Live music: Tom Mackenzie: Everything from French Canadian dance tunes, to Tin Pan Alley, to Old Time Country, and a healthy dose of originals
12:30 - Live Music: Norman Carter with Flatlanders and Friends, featuring Johannes Wheeldon, Josh Wykle, Norman Carter, and Tim Scandale
1:00 - Live music: Pitz Quattrone and the Freelancers: a highly improvisational, fun, jamrockin, 5- piece dance band sonic wave. A sprinkling of Pitz's original material makes it into the mix as well.
2:00 Blackfly Parade and Fashion Show. Create your own costume, or model one of ours. There will be a marching band, local tractors, and fabulous floats, including “Where the Wild Things Are.” Not to toot our own kazoo, but past parades have been described as “campy,” “a whole lot of fun,” and “the Macy’s Day Parade of the Insect World!”
• Silent Auction ends.
2:45 - Blackfly Pie Contest. Come watch as solo cooks and families submit black and blood themed confections to hungry judges, who award entries for Taste, Blackfly Homage, and Artistry. This year’s judges include and celebrated writer/storyteller Willem Lange and Vermont’s first lady, Katie Hunt and the Reigning 2015 Pie Contest Winner Amy Willis .
3:30 – Blackfly Poetry Slam, hosted by VT's reigning slam champion, Geof Hewitt. Bring an original piece of writing that you can present in 3 minutes or less. It does not have to be "poetry," and you can read from the page or recite by heart. Judges, chosen at random from the audience, will score each piece with bragging rights and a very modest prize for the winner! Sign up just before the slam begins, and bring an extra piece of writing in case there's time for a 2nd round.
4:00 - Grill closes.
4:30/5:00 - Festival ends. Blackflies all die.
