Battle of Shelburne Crossroads, Civil War Weekend – May 21st & 22nd, 2016

A Civil War Encampment with Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery & more. The Civil War Weekend will include two days of battles; Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery demonstrations, and soldier and 19th-century Civilian camp life. Learn about Vermont’s role in the Civil War, see Union and Confederate troops squaring off against each other using 1860’s tactics, and talk with re-enactors about the life of a typical soldier. Experience the past through living history.
Camp opens to the public at 9:00 am Saturday & Sunday, with battles taking place at 2:00 pm on Saturday and at 1:00 pm Sunday.

Sponsored by the Champlain Valley Historical Reenactors, Inc., and including the 2nd Vermont Volunteer Infantry - Co. A, 2nd Mississippi (Magnolia Rifles), 1st Vermont Cavalry - Co. K, The Civil War Medical Coalition, Grays & Blues of Montreal, and the associated Green Mountain Citizens.

9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and 9:00am to 2:30pm on Sunday, at the crossroads of Harbor and Bay Roads, Shelburne, VT (2100 Harbor Road – across from the entrance to Shelburne Farms)

9:00 Camp Opens to Public: Visitors are welcome to tour the camps.
10:00 Cavalry demonstration: (at the Union Cavalry camp) Watch the cavalry drill with their horses and practice tactics used during the Civil War. Afterwards, come talk with a reenactor, discuss the equipment and try out a saddle!
11:00 Artillery demonstration: (look for the cannon!)
1:00 Mail Call: (at the head of the company street in the Union camp) Soldiers receive words and packages from home.
2:00 Battle: (narrated by uniformed living historian)
3:30 Battlefield injuries and surgery - Medical Corps at the Medical tent
4:30 Burial service for a deceased soldier
5:00 Camp Closes to Public: Please come back to see us tomorrow!
