Manchester Community Library and Vermont PBS will host a free film screening and discussion of the PBS POV film 15 to Life: Kenneth's Story at the library.

Does sentencing a teenager to life without parole serve our society well? This is the story of one of those children, now a young man, seeking a second chance in Florida. At age 15, Kenneth Young received four consecutive life sentences for a series of armed robberies. 15 to Life: Kenneth's Story follows Young's struggle for redemption, revealing a justice system with thousands of young people serving sentences intended for society's most dangerous criminals.

A distinguished panel will lead the discussion, including Vermont Superior Court Judge Cortland Corsones; Bennington/Rutland Court Manager and Executive Director of the Vermont Bar Assocation Therese Corsones; Superior Court Judge David Howard; State's Attorney Erica Marthage; Beth Sausville, District Director of the Bennington District Office of the Department of Children and Families; and Jessica A. Smith, Esq.

Panelists will share their perspective on the film and their own professional experience as it relates to the film. In addition, they will address any questions that the audience may have and encourage audience members to add to the conversation.

The PBS Film Series offers the opportunity to step out of one's living room and join with other community members to view and discuss films that tackle contemporary issues. Hosting a panel discussion made up of professionals in the field under discussion makes the film screening more meaningful and dynamic for those in attendance; the panel's expertise will add depth and a unique perspective on the issue of youth receiving life sentences.

Manchester Community Library is located at 138 Cemetery Ave. in Manchester Center. For more info about this free program, email events@mclvt.org or call 802-362-2607.
