Prescription Take Back Day Saturday, April 30

NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY is coming on SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Washington County Sheriff W. Samuel Hill, in cooperation with the DEA, Central Vermont New Directions Coalition and the Vermont Department of Health Partnership For Success, has coordinated six collection sites within Washington County.

Collection Sites:
1 Washington County Sheriff’s Department, 10 Elm Street, Montpelier, VT
2 Montpelier Police Department, 1 Pitkin Court
3 Northfield Police Department, 110 Wall Street, Northfield, VT
4 Barre City Police Department, 15 Fourth Street, Barre City, VT
5 Kinney Drugs, 800 US Route 302, Berlin, VT
6 Kinney Drugs, 80 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT
(Note: Middlesex State Police will NOT be a collection site on April 30th)

Most prescription drugs should not be flushed down the toilet, washed down the drain, or composted. Proper disposal helps avoid harming water sources, wildlife, pets, and people. It also helps to prevent theft and misuse by others, especially as Vermont battles an opiate addiction crisis. In 2015, 11% of Vermont teens reported taking a pain reliever or stimulant not prescribed to them. Here's how you can help: Get rid of unused or expired medications; securely store or lock up all meds at home; monitor medication use among family members; talk to your kids about the dangers of prescription drugs; spread the word about Take Back Day on April 30th.

For year-round disposal, there are three permanent, locked drop boxes at: the Sheriff's Office in Montpelier, Barre City Police Department, and the new one at the Montpelier Police Department.
