Richmond Road Bike/Pedestrian Feasibility Study
You’re invited! The consultants working on alternatives for bike/pedestrian improvements to Richmond Road will present their ideas on April 20. We will use your feedback to help decide which alternative to flesh out in more detail in the project’s final recommendations.
Background
A safe route for pedestrians and cyclists along Richmond Road (from the North Road intersection to CVU Road intersection) is a priority in the Hinesburg Town Plan. This section of Richmond Road is Hinesburg’s highest population density area, with 286 homes directly served by the corridor, including two mobile home parks with 121 homes. The western end of the corridor also connects to the village sidewalks and CVU High School. Installing bike/ped improvements is challenging on this narrow, twisty road. With the help of the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission, we’ve hired the Toole Design Group (TDG, transportation consultants) to assess options for bike/pedestrian improvements and associated costs.
On November 5, 2015, we held a meeting at the Town Office to discuss the potential for improvements to the Richmond Road corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists. Thirty plus people attended and provided information and perspective about the corridor. Another 10-15 people provided comments via email. The consultant prepared an existing conditions summary memo, which is available on the project webpage – see the Town website at www.hinesburg.org.
