I89 Exit 8 Northbound On-Ramp to Close
Ledge scaling at the Exit 8 northbound off ramp in Montpelier is underway. Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when using both the Exit 8 northbound and southbound off ramps as the work zone is located in the area where the ramps merge. Motorists must now yield and merge into one lane at the end of the ramps.
Exit 8 northbound off ramp traffic can expect delays getting off the interstate as traffic must yield at the end of the ramp which may result in stopped traffic on the ramp. A uniformed traffic officer is present weekday mornings between 7:00 am and 8:30 am to assist in maintaining traffic flow at the point where cars merge at the end of the northbound and southbound exit ramps.
Ledge removal at I89 Exit 8 in Montpelier will require the northbound on-ramp to be closed starting October 3rd. Crews will be blasting and scaling back the slope of the ledge along the on-ramp. According to the contractor’s schedule, the closure is scheduled to run for about a month. All other I89 Exit 8 ramps will remain open.
For the duration of the closure, alternate routes to I-89N are as follows:
• From the West side of Montpelier, take US Route 2 West to Exit 9 in Middlesex (this will be a marked detour route)
• From the East side of Montpelier, take Route 302 to Route 62 to Exit 7 in Berlin Work on the Exit 8 northbound off-ramp will continue during the northbound on-ramp closure. At various times during the day while crews are scaling the ledge, traffic may be stopped to allow for falling debris.
For the safety of traveling motorists, when crews are blasting on any of the exit ramps, traffic will be stopped and held on I89 as well as the open exit ramps. Once the blast has occurred and the roadway deemed safe, traffic will be released. Crews will refrain from blasting during morning and afternoon commute times.
Work updates and press releases will be issued and distributed to various media sources. Information will also be available on www.roadworkupdates.com
