Human trafficking is modern day slavery – the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of commercial exploitation. In 2010, Vermont established a Human Trafficking Task Force that includes the attorney general, representatives from human services and civic advocacy groups. Vermont has strong laws related to human trafficking, with penalties of up to life in prison. It affects more than 20 million people worldwide.
The League of Women Voters opposes all forms of domestic and international human trafficking of adults and children, including sex and labor trafficking.
There is no cost to attend but registration is required and may be made via email, https://lwvhumantrafficking.eventbrite.com or lwvofvt@gmail.com. RSVP deadline, Friday, March 11, 2016.
