Preview of City Council Meeting

Past event
Feb 16, 2016, 6 to 9 PM

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are having a good President’s Day weekend. In observance of the holiday, the City Council will hold the second of two meetings for the month of February on Tuesday, February 16.

The Council will begin its evening at 6pm with an event celebrating the improvements to Contois Auditorium in honor of Burlington’s 150th Birthday. The community is welcome and we encourage you to attend. A few words will be said and light refreshments will be served.

Following this event, the Council will begin its meeting. We have a very brief Local Control Commission meeting and an equally as brief Board of Civil Authority meeting which will take place Tuesday evening.

The first item on our agenda is resolution sponsored by the full Council relating to the improvements to Contois. We will then have a presentation from Beth Anderson, the Chief Innovation Officer for the City, on information technology and network security activities. We will also have a presentation from Beth on permit reform efforts. The desire for permit reform has been on just about everyone’s agenda for some time. In this year’s budget, we allocated funds to undertake a formal and active study of what is needed to make the permit process more user-friendly, accessible and more efficient.

We have two indoor entertainment permits and one outdoor entertainment permit on our deliberative agenda. We have two resolutions on our agenda: one regarding the agreement for acquiring 121 acres of land on the former Burlington College land and the other on drone enforcement. We will also be voting on the Vehicles for Hire ordinance.

We will then have an Executive Session for an update on the New Moran negotiations.

Prior to our Executive Session, we will have Council committee reports, comments from Councilors and the Mayor.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday or Tuesday.

My best,
Karen
