Carnevale Vergennes returns to the Vergennes Opera House on March 5, celebrating the return of Marco Polo to Venice in 1292. After spending more than 20 years as a “guest” of the great Kublai Khan, Marco Polo was granted permission to return to his homeland – just in time for Carnevale!
Did Marco Polo really bring pasta to the West? This year, we will bring the mysteries of the Orient to Vergennes through an Asian-inspired menu of bountiful hors d’oeuvres and a spectacular Venetian-themed dessert buffet. You can decide the pasta question for yourself.
We encourage (but will NEVER REQUIRE) costumes, and invite you to imagine the manner of dress in 1292. Might you have your grandmother’s kimono tucked away in a closet? Or perhaps you have a secret desire to wear a powdered wig and sweeping skirts. Carnevale is a time set aside to be “other than who you are.” Some interesting historical information is available at: http://www.carnivalofvenice.com.
If you have any questions about costume ideas, please feel free to email: Andrew.l.fritz@gmail.com. He’ll be happy to lend a hand.
We hope you will join the Vergennes Opera House, Vergennes Partnership and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes for an evening of food, fun, and entertainment the likes of which has never been seen in the Little City!
Your $50 ticket will directly benefit three amazing organizations that keep the heart of our community beating. Tickets are limited to 200, so don’t wait! Visit http://carnevalevergennes2016.eventbrite.com and get your tickets now!
