Wednesday, February 10, 6:30 pm film and presentation with Skip Gates, Free and open to public At U-32 High School Auditorium, 930 Gallison Hill Road, Montpelier, VT

This powerful film, The Opiate Effect, features the story of Will Gates, a University of Vermont student who tragically overdosed on heroin and the impact that experience has had on his family. It also seeks to educate young people and their parents about the dangers of opiate prescription drug and heroin use by drawing on the experiences of Will’s father, Skip Gates, and a number of heroin addicts in recovery. With opiate abuse, crime, and addiction being a current problem in Vermont, the film aims to inform and prevent getting involved with opiate drugs and is geared especially toward high school and college age students, their parents, and community members. U-32 students in grades 10,11,12 will see the film during the day. Parents and community are encouraged to come and bring their other students to the evening presentation. Also presented at UVM Memorial Lounge in Waterman on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 4:30 pm. All are welcome.
