The weekend’s Winterfest is chock full of fun events, out doors and indoor. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Here is Saturday’s schedule:

The Green Mountain Club is celebrating Waterbury Winterfest with Trails Day starting at 9 AM. Discover a local trail or enjoy a favorite trail challenge in winter. Led by seasoned Green Mountain Club staff and volunteers, there will be eight different hikes departing from CC Outdoor Store on Rt. 2. Head out to some of our best local hikes including Little River State Park, Mt. Hunger, Perry Hill, and various hikes on Camel's Hump. Hike descriptions, difficulty levels and departure times are listed at and . Snowshoe and Micro spike demos available ($). Great raffles with gear, lodging, and restaurant prizes ($). All hikes and samples of local provisions are FREE.

A Puppet Show, The Mitten, 10:30 AM, at the Tiny Acorn on S. Main St. Join the good folks at the Tiny Acorn for the show, activities, snowflake hunt, and treats. Come see what surprises are in store and how many animals can fit inside a mitten!

Capture The Flag Crossett Brook Middle School Fields & Forests
Starting at 11 AM. There’s never too much (or too little!) snow for this traditional outdoor game where athletics meets chess! Teams will be assigned at the event and then set loose to capture the enemy's flag or get tagged and sent to jail! All ages and abilities welcome.

A History Hike in Little River State Park begins at 1 PM. Hike through the old CCC Camp Smith where 2,000 plus young men lived while they built the Waterbury Dam between 1935 - 1938. See three magnificent chimneys and look for winter animal tracks in the snow. An adult must accompany children.

From 5 PM to 8 PM there will be Live Jazz and Harwood Hockey at the Ice Center. Enjoy a double-header of legendary Harwood hockey spiced with Cory Beard's live jazz band and special Winterfest events between games. 5 PM: Harwood Girls vs. Hartford; 6 PM: Jazz Music in the snack bar; 7 PM: Harwood Boys vs. MVU.

The Game Show, at the Green Mountain Club Visitors Center is sold out.
