Jess Robinson, VT State Archaeologist will speak on Saturday, February 20th at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier. The winter lecture series will also feature famed naturalist Brian Pfeiffer on 3/19/16.
The Clarke Lecture series, over 50 years old now, is a dinner/lecture series held each winter to bring new developments in natural history science to the general public. The evening begins at 6 pm with hot cider and conversation with the speaker, continues with a carefully prepared vegetarian dinner by chef Amy Wales at 6:30 pm and culminating with the talk by Jess Robinson at 7:45 pm. The Champlain Sea was an inland arm of the Atlantic Ocean that occupied the Champlain Basin at the end of the last ice age. Recent research by Jess Robinson and colleagues suggests that Paleoindians, the first Native Americans to enter Vermont, were drawn to the region partially because of the resources the Champlain Sea contained. Jess will present his research on the Champlain Sea and Paleoindians in Vermont, and what it might say about how they lived, where they lived, and how they traveled across the landscape during this early period in Vermont's ancient past..
Please join us for a delicious dinner (cost $15) and lecture by donation.
