The NOFA Vermont Winter Conference, happening 2/13-2/15 in Burlington, is an annual highlight for the Northeast's locavores, food growers and eaters. The conference is an inspiring three days of shared learning, good food, and great conversation. Are you a gardener interested in growing figs or hops? A homesteader interested in the history and chemistry of gluten or how to make crisper pickles? Are you a commercial grower interested in more energy efficient cold storage or producing sweet potatoes and ginger? Or are you interested in the business and marketing of farming? The schedule features over 100 workshops and registration fees start at just $65/day.
The conference also features “Monday Intensives”: day-long sessions on Elderberries, Bees, Agroforestry and Vegetable Growing. (Descriptions at http://nofavt.org/events/annual-nofa-vt-events/winter-conference-2016/monday-intensives.)
Also, the Children’s Conference is on a sliding scale this year! Pay $0/day if you wish, and bring your kids aged 5-12 with you. Kids attend workshops in felting and print-making, go outside for workshops on animal tracking and making shelters, and create their own snacks by baking in NOFA’s mobile oven, drying fruit, or making bicycle smoothies.
