Flood Resiliency Public Forum
The Georgia Planning Commission is holding a public forum at the Georgia Public Library on November 24th at 7 PM to assess Georgia’s flood risk and inform changes to the Georgia Municipal Plan. Over the last several years, the topic of flooding has become increasingly significant to Vermont communities (Large flooding events, including the 2011 Lake Champlain flooding and Tropical Storm Irene, has led to a greater public awareness about the risks posed by flooding. The Georgia Planning Commission hopes to address Georgia’s “flood resiliency” as a part of the Town’s ongoing revision of the Georgia Municipal Plan. The Flood Resiliency Public Forum is an opportunity for community members to learn more about what steps Georgia has taken to become a more flood resilient community and to provide input regarding additional steps Georgia can take further reduce future flood risk and damage. Representatives from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and Northwest Regional Planning Commission will be in attendance and will be available for questions. This project is funded through a municipal planning grant from the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development.
