Saving the Harvest - a Community Event

Past event
Nov 14, 2015

In the months from June through October local farmers have extra produce that they generously give to our local food shelves. Sometimes there is more food than can be consumed while it is still fresh. The option of preserving the food through freezing, soup making, and canning will help make the summer bounty available for those in need during the winter months.

Creating a flexible team of community members who can pitch in and help in saving the harvest will allow people to volunteer when they have time and develop a deeper sense of community and stewardship of our local harvest.

We ask that those interested in being notified when there is a crop that needs preserving submit their address. Please send your e-mail to e.parker56@gmail.com to have your name added to the Volunteer Spot volunteer list. When an event is planned you will receive an e-mail notification. If you wish to volunteer, you will follow the link and sign-up. If you are unable to help that day, simply delete the email. This has the potential of becoming a multi-generational, inter-denominational group who will share their knowledge of preserving food.

Our first event will be making applesauce Saturday, November 14th from 10AM until it is done (hopefully well before 6pm) at the Christ Church Kitchen, 64 State Street, Montpelier, VT. You may sign up for an hour or two or for the whole time. We look forward to enjoying time together Saving the Harvest.
