YOUTH SAFETY COUNCIL OF VERMONT, AT&T RAISE 'TURN OFF TEXTING' AWARENESS
9/19 Bristol Teen Center Event Launches National 'Drive 4 Pledges' Campaign and YSCVT Turn Off Texting Golf Cart Demo Season

The dangers of texting while driving are immense and real, but many drivers are unaware of the potential consequences of texting at the wheel. Two organizations are working together to raise awareness and change the perspectives of young and old drivers, making the roads safer throughout the Vermont. The Youth Safety Council of Vermont and AT&T will be demonstrating their campaigns and commitment to young drivers' safety on September 19 at The Hub Teen Center & Skatepark, 110 Airport Drive, Bristol, from 2:30pm-4pm.

The Youth Safety Council operates programs that improve the safety of Vermont's youth. On September 19 the YSC will be sharing its golf cart "Turn Off Texting" demonstration with the public. Anyone with a VT Learner's Permit or drivers license will be welcome to experience this eye-opening educational program that travels to schools throughout the state, creating first-hand experiences of the dangers of texting while driving. The YSC is launching its 2013-2014 TOT program season; all dates in October have been scheduled and the popular demonstrations are being booked into May and June, 2014.

AT&T will be collecting pledges as part of the national 'Drive 4 Pledges' Day on September 19, inviting drivers of all ages to pledge not to text and drive at the It Can Wait campaign web site, ItCanWait.com. Individuals can also sign up at ItCanWait.com, and access resources that will help them share their commitment on social media, and personalize the movement on the streets of their communities. AT&T started the It Can Wait movement in 2010 with the goal of creating a social stigma around the dangerous habit of texting while driving. Drive 4 Pledges Day will focus on getting individuals involved in taking the pledge to never text and drive while encouraging others in their community to do the same. Earlier this year, mobile carriers Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile joined the ICW movement.

The Hub Teen Center & Skatepark will be screening AT&T's new anti-texting documentary 'From One Second to the Next' ( http://www.itcanwait.com/videos/2013-documentary/ ); providing computers for drivers to pledge not to text at the wheel at ItCanWait.com; offering refreshments to the public; and the Vermont-based indie-punk band Sails will perform live.
