Past event
Oct 11, 2015, 11 AM to 2 PM

The Conservation Commission invites you to help celebrate the Gomo Town Forest and the JCCs tenth anniversary on October 11 from 11 AM to 2 PM. Come for tours, nature awareness games, Fall photo opportunities and a chance to chat with the JCC members. Bring a brown bag lunch, Johnson Conservation Commission will provide apple treats
including an apple harvest torte, apple coffee cake, apple dump cake, apple cookies, apples & cheese. Take Codding Hollow Road to the end of the traveled portion, then follow the signs. JCC members will be along the trail to help. Information at 635-7826. RSVP is not required, but would help to make sure we have enough apple desserts.

Why is there a party at the Gomo Town Forest? The state is celebrating 100 years of Town Forests. Formerly a working farm, Johnson secured the property for $1 in 1948 and designated the land as the Gomo Town Forest 44 years ago in April 1971. Since the Johnson Conservation Commission was established at town meeting in March 2005, members have been conducting a number of projects at the 140 +/- acre Gomo parcel. A natural resources management plan (2006), and a fish & wildlife habitat plan (2009) have been prepared to guide on-site management work, and cultural artifacts and multi-purpose trails (2013) have been mapped. With sunny weather predicted, Sunday will a great day for a celebration. It is a bit wet in the woods; we recommend wearing boots. We hope you will join us.
