Dear Neighbors,
On Tuesday, the City Council will hold the first of two meetings for the month of October. (Please note the change of day due to the Columbus Day holiday.)
The Council will begin its evening with a work session on tentative contracts with two of our collective bargaining units at 6:15pm downstairs in City Hall in Conference Room 12. We expect that the majority of this worksession will be in executive session.
We will move to Contois Auditorium for our City Council meeting at 7pm. We will begin our evening by hearing annual reports from the Conservation Board and the Police Commission.
There are three ordinances on our agenda: one regarding the treatment of livestock, an ordinance on the regulation of chickens and other animals and an ordinance on peddlers and solicitors.
We will hear a presentation from CEDO and Capital Projects Manager Martha Keenan on Memorial Auditorium.
The first resolution on our agenda is the adoption of the Housing Action Plan. This is an important document detailing the City’s plans for housing. The document is online but I’ve cut and pasted it here if you’d like to take a look: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/files/A35A5R50C058/$file/Housing%20Actio[...]pdf
The other two resolutions relate to our work session. These are ratification of the tentative agreement with two of our unions, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the Burlington Firefighters Union.
Our last item is a communication from CEDO Director Peter Owens and the City Attorney’s office on New Moran. Since this update involves negotiations, the majority of this presentation will likely be in executive session.
We have a Council meeting with the Mayor Presiding that will occur at some point during the evening to vote on an open seat on the Board of Voter Registration. Our last items on our evening are Council committee reports, comments from Councilors and the Mayor.
As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. You can find everything on our agenda, all documents and resolutions at: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.
As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please email or give me a call over the weekend or on Monday and Tuesday.
I hope you all enjoy a terrific (and long) weekend.
My best,
Karen
