Hello Neighbors,
Looks like Thursday will be a little cooler, which is good news for the Jericho Farmers Market! We hope to see you there 3:00- 6:30 at Mills Riverside Park. Come early and spend some time wading in the river, it is a great way to cool off and then you can come enjoy the market and fill your grocery bag with fresh food for the weekend.
Remember we have - Bread, cheese, milk, eggs, every veggie you could want, beef, chicken and pork, syrup, honey and more.
And if it is too hot to cook on Thursday make a picnic with goodies from our vendors, or buy food prepared and ready to eat from Davorka at Mostar Catering or Heidi at Mediterranean Mix (formerly Euro Restaurant). Davorka also has ice cold lemonade and you can finish off with treats from The French Baker and Julia at Vt Maple Forest Products has a huge array of flavors and kinds of maple candy for you to try.
Plan to sit in the shade and listen to 2 Cents in the Till, a great bluegrass quartet returning to the Jericho Market.
Here’s some of what you’ll find at the market this week:
New this week - Little Woof’s Dog Treats! Bring your 4-legged friend something from the market.
Maple Star Farm will feature Blueberries, Green Beans, Tomatoes, Bright Yellow Summer Squash, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Hot Peppers, Dilly Beans, Cut Flowers (Zinnias and Sun-Flowers) and Raw, Unfiltered and Unheated Honey...
This week Poker Hill Gardens recommends dwarf oregano (Origanum vulgare nana). We've not tried the dwarf form as a kitchen herb but it would probably be fine. Our interest is in it as an ornamental which is at its best during the hot dry months of summer. It forms a compact mound of bright apple green at a time when most other plants are beginning to age. The photo shows it planted at the base of a stone wall where it receives full sun for most of the day. Another summer ornamental is goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) which is familiar to herbalists but not to many gardeners. The flowers are not showy but the long lasting fruit makes it worthwhile in the shady garden during late July and August. Crimson "berries" are displayed against a background of interesting foliage. We'll have a few plants for sale this week. Keep cool!
