SHHS Presents: The Life and Times of Summer Resident Col. H. Nelson Jackson through the Eyes of his Granddaughter

Col. H. Nelson Jackson was a man of many talents. He was a doctor, a banker, a military medic in the war and most notably the first man to drive a car cross country in 1902. His granddaughter, Mary Louise Blanchard spent many years summering in South Hero at her Grandfather’s Camp on what is today called Phelps Point, right across “The Narrows” from Providence Island. She currently lives in Maine and is a big part of the historical society there. She will be presenting the history of her grandfather’s life in South Hero including his remarkable trip cross country--the first man to do so--at a time when there were very few roads.

Mary Louise’s childhood friends include Sue Mc McBride Crowley and Nancy McBride Colby. They played together in the summers and were friends during their years at Burlington High School. Please join us for a fun evening of South Hero history and memories. All ages are welcome!
