Stowe Select Board to Discuss Moscow/100 Turn Lane & Light

Next Monday July 13, at 5:30 + or - the Stowe Select Board will be discussing the possibility of a traffic light at the Moscow 100 intersection. There has been support from the board and from many Moscow residents and Nebraska Valley residents at a past Select Board meeting for doing something at the intersection for safety, especially with the possible addition of the left turn lane as a part of the Route 100 re-paving project slated to begin next spring.

The most recent Stowe Select Board meeting where the Moscow /100 intersection turn lane was discussed happened to be on the same night as discussion about the solar project for the Nebraska valley gravel pit.

Many residents of the Valley, and some from Moscow attended this meeting and spoke about the hazards of coming in and out of the Moscow /100 intersection. Support was expressed for a light or roundabout especially in light of the proposed left turn lane.

The Stowe Select Board asked the representatives for the Rt 100 paving project from State of Vermont that presented at this meeting ( about the left turn lane) to explore an immediate solution to help with safety at the intersection, especially considering the comment at the meeting, and the State said they would look into need for a traffic light.

The possibility of a roundabout was discussed also at this meeting and it was said that a roundabout Would be in a 5 to 10 year plan at least, if approved, and the State said that only thing that can be done (if warranted) and done immediately, is a traffic light without delaying the paving project next spring. Delaying the 100 re- paving project was not supported at this meeting.

A traffic light at the Moscow /100 intersection to improve safety will be discussed at next Monday's Stowe Select Board Meeting.

The public is welcome to come to the meeting next Monday to provide input or share your view on the possibility of a traffic light at the intersection.

If you can't make the meeting and want to share with the Select Board your thoughts on this, if you would like, you can post to the forum or e mail me your thoughts and I will forward your messages to the Board. Please be advised that anything you write is publishable, written materials given to the select board for review is considered public record.
