Carmina Burana is characterized by its rhythmic energy and has been popular with audiences since its first performance in 1936. The text comes from a large collection of secular poems of the 12th and 13th centuries preserved at the Bavarian monastery of Benediktbeuren. While some poems are morally uplifting, most are bawdy student songs celebrating such un-monklike earthly delights as drinking, gambling, dancing and lovemaking.

St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltones and St. Johnsbury School 5/6 Chorus will also perform several short works.

Tickets are available in advance from Catamount Arts: adults $11, students $5.50 (incl. reduced service fees).
