The rumors are true -- Waterbury is hosting a new state barbecue championship and BBQ Festival in coordination with the Not Quite Independence Day celebrations on June 27 & 28. Immediately after the Saturday morning parade, the BBQ Festival will take place at Farr's Field, 2 miles west of town. You'll be able to experience authentic barbecue, food trucks, craft brews, live music and family activities. End Saturday night with the fireworks display, and come back on Sunday for more BBQ and new musicians.

More than 25 pit masters from across the country will be competing in the Green Mountain BBQ Championship – sanctioned as a Vermont state BBQ championship by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The winner will be invited to participate in several national competitions. This event supports Waterbury's local Rotary Club.
