Dear Neighbors,
As part of the Monday, April 13th City Council meeting, we'll be holding a public hearing on the city's housing action plan. The current plan was developed by the Office of the Mayor, the Community and Economic Development Office and the Council's Community Development and Neighborhood Revitalization committee, following many months of discussion and collaboration.
You can read the current version of the housing action plan, public feedback to date and a May 2014 Downtown Housing Strategy Report with related comments:
http://www.burlingtonvt.gov/CEDO/Housing-Action-Plan
Please be aware that the housing action plan reflects areas for future study or initiative, but that individual strategies will still need to be evaluated and voted on by the city council as a whole as they develop. Key goals in the plan are to: reduce regulatory barriers to the creation of new housing, make low and moderate income housing increasingly available, pursue new student housing and quality of life solutions, develop new approaches to chronic homelessness and meet the housing needs of an aging population.
I hope you can join us on April 13th to make your voice heard. The housing action plan forum will follow the 7:30 general public forum. If you have feedback, but are unable to join us, please feel free to reach out to me and/or to Brian Lowe (brian@burlingtonvt.gov) in the Mayor's Office to share your thoughts.
Best,
Selene Colburn
