Bob Fosse (1927-1987) the great Jazz choreographer/filmmaker is the focus of our first three (adult) films. Sweet Charity (1969), will be screening Saturday, March 28th. (1969) This delightful film version of Neil Simon’s hit Broadway musical
of the same name tells the story of a dancer walking the line between hope and squalor and was inspired by the Fellini film “Nights of Cabiria”. An unforgetable treasure trove of numbers from “Rich Man’s Frug” to ”Big Spender” launches the nubile Shirley MacLaine into super stardom. In spite of its lack of box office success, the film has become a cult favorite, a more recent manifestation being Beyonce’s interpretaion of “Rich Man’s Frug” in her “Get Me Bodied” video.
