Winter is Coming and Oil is Not Cheap

Efficiency Vermont and Neighborworks have been offering Home Performance Audits to Rutland County residents for quite awhile for a discounted price of only $100. If you have not had one done on your home, the Tinmouth Energy Committee urges you to find out what needs to be done on your house and how much you can save. Contact Neighborworks at 438-2303 x 227 or http://heatsquad.org/. Once you know what needs to be done, you can hire a contractor to do the work, and Efficiency Vermont offers incentives towards the cost of completion – up to $2,000 per home plus a bonus of $500 for completion in 2013. Neighborworks can help you with financing if desired.

If you are the kind of homeowner who likes to do things themselves, you can do the work yourself (DIY). To learn proper air sealing and insulation techniques, homeowners are encouraged to attend a Weatherization Skillshop prior to the initial energy audit. Geared towards people with basic handyperson skills, these trainings provide a hands-on introduction to building science and weatherization techniques. The cost to register is $25.There is a workshop in Manchester sponsored by Efficiency Vermont on Saturday Sept. 14 from 9-3 at Burr and Burton.

For more info on DIY or to register for the workshop, visit the Efficiency Vermont website http://www.efficiencyvermont.com/for_my_home/ways-to-save-and-rebates/energy_improvements_fo[...]spx (scroll down half a page to get the workshop info).
