Burns Night at Calvary Episcopal Church, Route 15, Underhill Flats, featuring Scottish music and Burns poetry, Sunday, Jan. 25 at 3PM. Burns Night is a celebration of the life and poetry of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns. It is usually held on an evening near Robbie’s birthday in late January. Ours will include music performed by Gryphon & Co. and Scottish goodies to eat. Our Burns Night is a fundraiser for the parish in our quarterly “Harp and Tea” series. This time the harp is the Celtic Harp.
Robbie Burns wrote lyrics to traditional Scottish tunes. As a tax collector he traveled throughout Scotland and as he traveled he heard wonderful melodies and ancient songs. He was able to remember perfectly any melody that he heard and had a gift for crafting lyrics - some tender, some bawdy, some tragic, some humorous. His work includes “Ye Banks and Braes”, “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose”, and “A Man’s a Man for a’ That”. Regina’s dulcet tones and Stephen’s sonority, both as soloists and duet, combined with their mastery of their instruments - the Celtic harp, the 12-string guitar, and the Irish bouzouki - make Gryphon & Co. a treat for the listener. This “concert with refreshments” is family friendly.
Children $4, Adults $10, Family $20.
